- Biorock technology greatly accelerates coral settlement, growth, healing, survival, and resistance to environmental stresses such as high temperature, sediment, and pollution. The late architect developed the ground-breaking technique known as “biorock technology” in 1976 to create marine-based natural construction materials. Growing limestone breakwaters to safeguard islands and coastal areas from erosion and sea level rise, as well as fish and shellfish mariculture, have both been made possible with the use of rock technology.
