Introduction
Established as an autonomous business division within Digital India Corporation, the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM) holds comprehensive administrative and financial powers. Its primary objective is to catalyze the growth of the semiconductor ecosystem in India, encompassing manufacturing, packaging, and design.
Body:
Objectives of India’s Semiconductor Mission
Contributions to the Development of a Robust Domestic Semiconductor Manufacturing Industry:
- Semiconductor Fabs Scheme: Aiming to bolster electronics manufacturing, it attracts investments for semiconductor wafer facilities, offering 50% fiscal support on project costs for Silicon CMOS Semiconductor Fabs.
- DisplayFabs-Scheme: Strengthening the electronics manufacturing ecosystem, it targets investments for TFT LCD or AMOLED panel manufacturing, providing 50% fiscal support on project costs for establishing Display Fabs.
- Compound Semiconductors/Silicon: Encompassing Compound Semiconductors, Silicon Photonics (SiPh), and Sensors, including MEMS, it offers 50% fiscal support on capital expenditure for setting up facilities in India.
- Semicon Design Linked Incentive (DLI) Scheme: Promoting semiconductor design innovation, it provides financial incentives and design support for ICs, Chipsets, SoCs, Systems & IP Cores, offering up to 50% “Product Design Linked Incentive” and 6% to 4% “Deployment Linked Incentive” based on sales turnover.
- Infrastructure Development: ISM focuses on constructing semiconductor facilities and design ecosystems, enhancing domestic capabilities. For instance, the “Electronics Manufacturing Cluster” in states like UP and Gujarat creates an environment conducive to semiconductors and related industries.
Conclusion:
In conclusion, India’s Semiconductor Mission facilitates collaboration, builds essential infrastructure, and offers investment incentives to nurture domestic semiconductor manufacturing, enhancing India’s competitiveness in the global electronics market.
