However, she faced a setback in her first try at the Civil Services exam. When asked about it, she shared,<strong> &#8220;This is my second attempt. I had to take my Mains exam in Hindi due to some issues with the language. I missed my interview call by just one mark.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite failing once, Shruti learned from her mistakes and came back stronger in her second attempt, securing the top rank (AIR 1) in UPSC 2021. She expressed confidence in passing the exam but was pleasantly surprised to find out that she had topped it. She scored 173 marks in the personality test and 932 marks in the mains, totaling 1105 marks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Shruti_Sharma_UPSC_Preparation_Strategies\"><\/span>Shruti Sharma UPSC Preparation Strategies<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Shruti took a unique approach to her UPSC journey. Instead of following others&#8217; advice, she developed her own methods tailored to her understanding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>She started preparing for UPSC four years ago, beginning with studying NCERTs.<\/li><li>Recognizing the importance of current affairs in the IAS exam, she regularly read newspapers to stay updated on national and international events. To practice, she took online test series.<\/li><li>Making notes while studying proved beneficial for her revision.&nbsp;<\/li><li>She heavily relied on the internet and focused on practicing answer writing for the Mains exam.<\/li><li>Choosing History as her optional subject, she emphasized the significance of selecting the right optional subject, as it accounts for a significant portion of the final marks.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Shruti&#8217;s strategy centered on her notes and extensive answer-writing practice for the Mains exam. While she was optimistic about her performance, topping the merit list was a pleasant surprise.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Her key to success was patience throughout the preparation.<\/li><li>She prioritized quality learning over the number of study hours.<\/li><li>Shruti had a study schedule but limited her study sources.<\/li><li>During revision, she avoided taking up new books or study materials.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>For aspiring candidates, she recommends going through previous years&#8217; UPSC prelims question papers to understand the nature of the questions asked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>She emphasizes that it&#8217;s not about the number of study hours but the quality of study.
