Das met with several leaders of revolutionary terrorism, urging them to join the nonviolent mass movement or at least cease their activities.<\/li><li><strong>Transition and Disappointment:<\/strong> Recognizing the advent of a new political era, many revolutionary leaders attended the National Congress session in Nagpur and aligned themselves with the Congress. However, the abrupt suspension of the Non-Cooperation Movement in early 1922, triggered by the Chauri-Chaura incident, caused disillusionment and discontent among the movement&#8217;s young participants.<\/li><li><strong>Return to Violence:<\/strong> Disillusioned with Gandhi&#8217;s leadership and the perceived simplicity of nonviolent strategies, many participants turned back to the idea of violently overthrowing British rule. This was the only reason they threw a relatively harmless bomb in the Central Legislative Assembly in 1929. He fully accepted Marxism &amp; class approach to society<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Bhagat Singh was the first leader who understood the full dangers of communalism. According to him, Communalism was big danger than colonialism &amp; even criticized Lala Lajpat Rai when he took communal politics after 1924. People must free themselves from the mental bondage of religion &amp; consider religion as a matter of personal belief of man. He <strong>wrote Why am an Atheist in which he said any man who stands for progress has to challenge every item of old faith.<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>His relevance in present times<\/strong>: Communalism, student politics,&nbsp; inequality, scientific approach.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Revolutionary_Terrorism_in_Bengal\"><\/span>Revolutionary Terrorism in Bengal<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Began reorganizing after 1922 &amp; started their underground activities but continued to work in Congress at the same time because it provided them access to the masses<\/li><li>Problems \u2013 <strong>Congress divided in Bengal after CR Das\u2019s death into SC Bose &amp; JM Sengupta<\/strong>. <strong>Yugantar joined forces with Bose<\/strong> Wing &amp; <strong>Anushilan Samiti with Sengupta<\/strong>.&nbsp; Hence there was always factionalism of Yugantar vs Anushilan&nbsp; (YvsA)<\/li><li><strong>By 1924, they understood the utter inadequacy of individual heroic action &amp; accepted the strategy of national liberation through the armed seizure of power by mass uprisings. But, in practice, they still relied upon small-scale \u2018actions\u2019, in particular dacoities and assassination of officials.<\/strong><\/li><li>1 March 1924: <strong>Gopinath Saha made an unsuccessful assassination attempt on the Commissioner of Calcutta &amp; was hanged. In 1929 became Secretary of the Chittagong District Congress<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>Soon gathered a gang of youth revolutionaries &amp; formed a plan to organize an armed rebellion on a small scale to demonstrate that British rule could be challenged. To equip adequately they planned to raid several districts. The first such raid in Chittagong<\/li><li>Carefully prepared plan \u2013 occupied two armories + <strong>cut telephone &amp; telegraph + damaged railway lines<\/strong> connecting Chittagong with Calcutta<\/li><li>The first band captured the <strong>Police Armoury<\/strong> &amp; other captured <strong>Auxiliary Force Armoury<\/strong>. The raid was in the name of the <strong>Indian Republican Army, Chittagong Branch<\/strong>. Then they gathered outside the police station pulled down Union Jack &amp; raised the Indian flag. Surya Sen was declared President of the Provisional Revolutionary&nbsp; Government<\/li><li>They knew cant face troops directly &amp;&nbsp; started the guerrilla war. Surya Sen was captured after 3 years because of local support in 1933. Many joined the Communist Party, the Congress Socialist Party, the Revolutionary Socialist Party, and other left parties and groups.
