struggle for freedom. She came to India in 1914 and met Shri Aurobindo. She had a significant role in <strong>inspiring women like Annie Besant and Nellie Sen Gupta<\/strong>. She was <strong>named Mira Behn by Mahatma Gandhi<\/strong>. She <strong>accompanied Gandhiji to the Round Table Conference<\/strong>. She did pioneer work for social reforms in rural areas. She had participated in the <strong>Non-cooperation Movement and in the Quit India Movement<\/strong>. She had been sent to jail many times due to her revolutionary fight against the British.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Sarla_Behn\"><\/span><strong>Sarla Behn<\/strong>:&nbsp;&nbsp;<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Her original name was Katherine Mary Heilaman and she was a <strong>British National<\/strong>. She was named by Mahatma Gandhi. A great social worker, who set up an <strong>Ashram at Kausali in the Kumaon Hills of Uttarakhand<\/strong>. She <strong>helped the families of political prisoners.<\/strong>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Charles_freer_Andrews\"><\/span><strong>Charles freer Andrews:<\/strong>&nbsp;&nbsp;<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>He came to India as an <strong>Anglican priest<\/strong> and lecturer at St. Stephens College, Delhi in 1904. He was <strong>instrumental in pursuing Gandhi to return to India from South Africa<\/strong>. He worked with B.R. Ambedkar for the upliftment of downtrodden. He was <strong>given the title Dinabandhu by Gandhiji<\/strong>.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Sister_Nivedita\"><\/span><strong>Sister Nivedita:<\/strong>&nbsp;&nbsp;<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>A <strong>Scottish social worker<\/strong> and a disciple of Swami Vivekananda, she had participated in the Swadeshi Movement. But their hearts were moved by the brutal exploitation of the British-raj, hence joined India\u2019s struggle for Independence.&nbsp;<\/li><li>None advocated revolutionary terrorism or violent methods.&nbsp;<\/li><li>Almost all associated with Congress.
