  1. Late Entry of Colonialism:<\/strong> Africa earned the moniker “Dark Continent” because its vast interior remained largely unexplored and inaccessible due to challenging geographical features. This delayed the onset of colonialism in mainland Africa.<\/li>
  2. Explorations and European Interest:<\/strong> In the 19th century, individual explorers’ publications about their expeditions generated interest among Europeans. These explorers, through their accounts, highlighted the wealth of Central Africa and were able to navigate important rivers like the Congo, opening up the possibility of transporting mineral wealth to the coasts for export.<\/li>
