The root zone also serves as an ecosystem to foster soil micro-organisms besides rationing plant water requirements.\u00a0\u00a0<\/li><li><strong>River Catchment Management:<\/strong> Creation of<a href=\"https:\/\/www.drishtiias.com\/daily-updates\/daily-news-analysis\/green-energy-corridor\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong> green corridors<\/strong><\/a>,<strong> mapping of channels for potential recharge zones<\/strong> to store floodwater and<strong> artificial groundwater recharge structures in the urban areas<\/strong> (where groundwater is five-six metres below the surface), will subsequently contribute to reducing groundwater depletion.The use of<strong> dysfunctional bore wells for recharging groundwater<\/strong> with clean rainwater will also be a good option.\u00a0<\/li><li><strong>Rejuvenating ground water: <\/strong>&#8216;<strong>Bhungroo&#8217; <\/strong>is a water management system that injects and stores excess rainfall water underground. This kind of practice can be adopted in urban areas where water shortages are serious.\u00a0\u00a0<\/li><li><strong>Wastewater Management: Dual <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.drishtiias.com\/daily-updates\/daily-news-analysis\/capacity-of-india-s-sewage-treatment-plants\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>sewage system<\/strong><\/a><strong> for grey water and black water<\/strong> and promoting<strong> reuse of the recycled water<\/strong> in agriculture and horticulture should be promoted.
