However, it is dissipating due to traditional breakdown of occupation and industrialization.<\/li><li><strong>Disruption of traditionally ordained occupational system<\/strong>: Due to globalization and rise of the services sector.<\/li><li><strong>Anonymous urban life<\/strong>: With increasing migration, city life is becoming anonymous where caste identities of co-habitants is seldom known.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Factors_strengthening_caste_identity\"><\/span><strong>Factors strengthening caste identity<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Caste and politics<\/strong>: They both are closely linked to each other. In fact, the link has led to an empowerment among the lower castes since they ventilate their feelings through elections and power lobby. Dalit politics is one such example, where Dalits are trying to assert their identities and have become successful in capturing power in various states.<\/li><li><strong>Democratic decentralisation<\/strong>: The reservation provided in the Panchayati Raj system has given the opportunity for the lower castes to empower themselves.<\/li><li><strong>\u00a0Legislative measures<\/strong>: A variety of social legislations have been introduced in the post- independence era which aim to safeguard the interests of the down-trodden, to eradicate untouchability and to facilitate the social and economic development of the depressed castes. For instance, Untouchability (offences) Act, 1955 provided for punishment against the practice of untouchability.<\/li><li><strong>Caste based affirmative actions<\/strong>: Provision of caste-based reservation in education and jobs has strengthened the caste identities. For example, recent demand of OBC status by some caste groups.<\/li><li><strong>Collective mobilization<\/strong>: Caste groups are also mobilizing and collectively demanding equality and non- discrimination in the wake of incidents of atrocities on Dalits.<\/li><li><strong>\u201cDominant caste\u201d phenomenon<\/strong>: Landowning classes have also come to wield political power in some states due to sheer numbers, like in UP and Bihar. Some experts have called this phenomenon as <strong>\u201ccasteism\u201d<\/strong>. It is good in short term, because it links the modern democracy with the masses through caste based <strong>political mobilization<\/strong> and <strong>participation<\/strong>. However, it may threaten emergence of single national identity.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><div class=\"pcrstb-wrap\"><table><tbody><tr><td class=\"has-text-align-center\" data-align=\"center\"><strong>Dalit Capitalism<\/strong><br><br>The term <strong>\u2018Dalit capitalism\u2019<\/strong> was coined by a prominent activist and scholar, <strong>Chandra Bhan Prasad<\/strong> during the early 21st century, which led way to a new era of Dalit upsurges in corporate sectors. Issues faced by Dalit entrepreneurs-Majority of business transactions in India sustain on <strong>trust-based agreements<\/strong>, due to weak contract enforcement. Thus, having same roots or lineage play an important role in scoring an agreement.
