With reference to Indian laws about wildlife protection, consider the following statements:<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Wild animals are the sole property of the government.<\/li><li>When a wild animal is declared protected, such animal is entitled for equal protection whether it is found in protected areas or outside.<\/li><li>Apprehension of a protected wild animal becoming a danger to human life is sufficient ground for its capture or killing.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Which of the statements given above is\/are correct?<br>a) 1 and 2<br>b) 2 only<br>c) 1 and 3<br>d) 3 only<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Answer &#8211; A<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Statement 1 is correct: <\/strong>According to the Wild Life (Protection) Act of 1972, any wild animal that is hunted\u2014aside from vermin\u2014belongs to the State Government. If the animal is hunted in a sanctuary or National Park that The central Government has designated, the animal\u2014or any animal-related item\u2014belongs to the Central Government. The Bombay High Court declared in a major decision in 2012 that wild animals, including the tiger, should be recognized as \u201cgovernment property for all purposes.\u201d<\/li><li><strong>Statement 2 is correct:<\/strong> The law governing the subject of wildlife, the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972, does not discriminate between animals found in protected areas and outside. It provides for equal protection for wild animals irrespective of where they are found.<\/li><li><strong>Statement 3 is not correct:<\/strong> Only if the wild animal becomes a danger to human life or is diseased or disabled beyond recovery can it be allowed to be captured or killed by the competent authority, the Chief Wildlife Warden of the State. This provision is applicable to wild animals listed in Schedule I of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972, which includes leopards.
