With reference to the funds under the Members of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS), which of the following statements is correct?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>MPLADS funds must be used to create durable assets like physical infrastructure for health, education, etc.<\/li><li>A specified portion of each MP&#8217;s fund must benefit SC\/ST populations.<\/li><li>MPLADS funds are sanctioned on a yearly basis and the unused funds cannot be carried forward to the next year.<\/li><li>The district authority must inspect at least 10% of all works under implementation every year.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Select the correct answer using the code given below:<br>(a) 1 and 2 only<br>(b) 3 and 4 only<br>(c) 1, 2 and 3 only<br>(d) 1, 2 and 4 only<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Answer: D<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Statement 1 is correct:<\/strong> The MPLAD scheme was formulated in 1993 to enable Members of Parliament (MPs) to recommend to the District Collector for works to the tune of ?5 crores per annum to be taken up in his\/her constituency with an emphasis on the creation of durable community assets based on the locally felt need. The durable assets include drinking water, primary education, public health, sanitation roads, etc.<\/li><li><strong>Statement 2 is correct: <\/strong>There is a special focus on areas inhabited by Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe populations by earmarking 15% and 7.5 % of the MPLADS funds, respectively. Out of an amount of Rs.5 Crores, the M.P. shall recommend for areas inhabited by the SC population, Rs.75 lakhs, and Rs.37.5 lakhs for areas inhabited by ST population.<\/li><li><strong>Statement 3 is not correct:<\/strong> Each year under MPLADS, MPs receive 5 crore in two installments of 2.5 crore each.
