Over time, the scope of EIA legislation expanded to encompass various other developmental sectors.<\/li><li>EIA falls under the Notification on Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) of Developmental Projects 1994, as per the provisions of the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986. Here are the key aspects of the amendment:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Decentralisation_of_Project_Clearances\"><\/span><strong>Decentralisation of Project Clearances:<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Developmental projects were classified into two categories:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1-Category A (national level appraisal): Projects under this category are appraised by the Impact Assessment Agency (IAA) and the Expert Appraisal Committee (EAC) at the national level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>2-Category B (state level appraisal): Clearance for Category B projects is provided by the State Level Environment Impact Assessment Authority (SEIAA) and the State Level Expert Appraisal Committee (SEAC) at the state level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Introduction_of_Different_Stages\"><\/span>Introduction of Different Stages:<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The amendment introduced four distinct stages in the EIA Cycle: Screening, Scoping, Public Hearing, and Appraisal.<\/li><li>For Category A projects, which require mandatory environmental clearance, the screening process is not applicable.<\/li><li>Category B projects undergo a screening process and are further classified into B1 (Mandatorily requiring EIA) and B2 (Not requiring EIA).<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Projects_with_Mandatory_Clearance\"><\/span>Projects with Mandatory Clearance:<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Certain projects, such as mining, thermal power plants, river valley projects, infrastructure development (road, highway, ports, harbours, and airports), and industries, including very small electroplating or foundry units, are mandated to obtain environmental clearance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The 2006 amendment aimed to streamline the environmental clearance process, enhance transparency, and ensure that projects with potential environmental impacts undergo thorough scrutiny at the appropriate levels of authority.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"EIA_NOTIFICATION_2020_AND_ITS_IMPACT\"><\/span><strong>EIA NOTIFICATION 2020 AND ITS IMPACT<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"1_Public_Consultation\"><\/span>1.
