Established by the Government of India<\/strong>, the Punchhi Commission on Center-State Relations<\/strong> was chaired by Justice Madan Mohan Punchhi<\/strong>, a former Chief Justice of India. Its formation was prompted by the need to address emerging issues in Centre-State relations<\/strong> resulting from changes in India’s polity and economy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Historical Background of Punchhi Commission:<\/strong> The Government of India<\/strong> constituted the Commission on Centre-State Relations<\/strong> under Justice Madan Mohan Punchhi’s chairmanship<\/strong> with the aim to “examine and review the working of the existing arrangements between the Union and States.” This included various aspects such as legislative relations<\/strong>, administrative relations<\/strong>, the role of governors<\/strong>, emergency provisions<\/strong>, financial relations<\/strong>, economic and social planning<\/strong>, Panchayati Raj institutions<\/strong>, and the sharing of resources, including inter-state river water<\/strong>. Established on April 27, 2007<\/strong>, the commission comprised distinguished individuals from various backgrounds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
