In India, the <strong>Constituent Assembly<\/strong> was formed in November 1946, following the framework outlined by the <strong>Cabinet Mission Plan<\/strong>. This assembly, a combination of elected and nominated members, was indirectly elected by provincial assembly members, themselves chosen through a limited franchise. Comprising representatives from diverse sections of Indian society, the Constitution&#8217;s framers drew inspiration from various sources, incorporating features from:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Government of India Act, 1935:<\/strong> Federal Scheme, Office of Governor, Judiciary, Public Service Commissions, Emergency provisions, Administrative details.<\/li><li><strong>British Constitution:<\/strong> Parliamentary government, Rule of Law, Legislative procedure, Single citizenship, Cabinet System, Prerogative Writs.<\/li><li><strong>US Constitution:<\/strong> Fundamental Rights, Independence of Judiciary, Judicial Review, Impeachment of the President, Removal of Supreme Court and High Court judges, and the post of Vice-President.<\/li><li><strong>Irish Constitution:<\/strong> Directive Principles of State Policy, nomination of members to Rajya Sabha by the President, and the method of election of the President.<\/li><li><strong>Canadian Constitution:<\/strong> Federation with a strong Centre, Residuary Powers with the Centre, appointment of State Governors by the Centre, and advisory jurisdiction of the Supreme Court.<\/li><li><strong>Australian Constitution:<\/strong> Concurrent List, Freedom of trade, commerce, and intercourse, joint sitting of the two Houses of Parliament.<\/li><li><strong>Weimar Constitution:<\/strong> Suspension of Fundamental Rights during an emergency.<\/li><li><strong>Soviet Constitution:<\/strong> Fundamental duties, the ideal of justice (social, economic, and political) in the Preamble.<\/li><li><strong>French Constitution:<\/strong> Republic and the ideals of liberty, equality, and fraternity in the Preamble.<\/li><li><strong>South African Constitution:<\/strong> Procedure for the amendment of the Constitution and the election of members of Rajya Sabha.<\/li><li><strong>Japanese Constitution:<\/strong> Procedure established by law.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The drafted Constitution was ultimately adopted on <strong>26th November 1949<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/edukemy.com\/free-resources-for-upsc?utm_source=Blog&amp;utm_medium=Banner&amp;utm_campaign=Resources\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1280\" height=\"300\" data-src=\"https:\/\/edukemy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/18.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-42398 lazyload\" data-srcset=\"https:\/\/edukemy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/18.png 1280w, https:\/\/edukemy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/18-1170x274.png 1170w, https:\/\/edukemy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/18-585x137.png 585w\" data-sizes=\"(max-width: 1280px) 100vw, 1280px\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 1280px;
