With reference to solar power production in India, consider the following statements:<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>India is the third largest in the world in the manufacture of silicon wafers used<br>in photovoltaic units.<\/li><li>The solar power tariffs are determined by the Solar Energy Corporation of<br>India.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Which of the statements given above is\/are correct?<br>(a) 1 only<br>(b) 2 only<br>(c) Both 1 and 2<br>(d) Neither 1 nor 2<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Answer: D<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Statement 1 is not correct: <\/strong>Not a single silicon chip for solar energy is manufactured in India. Every solar panel which is made in India is assembled while all the material comes from China, Europe and some other countries. India is yet to develop semiconductor clusters. China is the world\u2019s largest silicon producer, with a production volume estimated at 5.4 million metric tons in 2020. The second largest producer of this metalloid in the world is Russia, Norway being third followed by the United States and Brazil.<\/li><li><strong>Statement 2 is not correct:<\/strong> The Central Electricity Regulatory Commission determines power tariffs including solar power tariffs in India and regulates the tariff of generating companies owned or controlled by the Central Government.
