The aim was to address key global challenges and improve the well-being of people around the world by achieving specific targets by the year 2015. The MDGs were crucial in guiding global efforts and cooperation in the field of development. The eight MDGs were:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Eradicate Extreme Poverty and Hunger:<\/strong><ul><li>Target: Halve the proportion of people living in extreme poverty and suffering from hunger.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li><strong>Achieve Universal Primary Education:<\/strong><ul><li>Target: Ensure that all boys and girls complete primary education.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li><strong>Promote Gender Equality and Empower Women:<\/strong><ul><li>Target: Eliminate gender disparity in primary and secondary education and promote gender equality in employment.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li><strong>Reduce Child Mortality:<\/strong><ul><li>Target: Reduce the under-five mortality rate and improve maternal health.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li><strong>Improve Maternal Health:<\/strong><ul><li>Target: Reduce the maternal mortality ratio and achieve universal access to reproductive health.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li><strong>Combat HIV\/AIDS, Malaria, and Other Diseases:<\/strong><ul><li>Target: Halt and reverse the spread of HIV\/AIDS, malaria, and other major diseases.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li><strong>Ensure Environmental Sustainability:<\/strong><ul><li>Target: Integrate the principles of sustainable development, reduce biodiversity loss, and ensure access to safe drinking water and sanitation.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li><strong>Develop a Global Partnership for Development:<\/strong><ul><li>Target: Develop a global partnership for development, with a focus on aid, trade, and debt relief.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>These goals were a shared commitment by all United Nations Member States to address the interconnected challenges facing humanity. While there were significant achievements, some targets were not fully met by 2015. The MDGs laid the groundwork for the subsequent Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which were adopted in 2015 to continue the global development agenda beyond the MDG timeline.
