First, we start with WHY does UPSC have Art & Culture as a part of the syllabus?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

We draw our ethos from the culture we have been a part of. A country as diverse as India, has various facets of culture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This cultural ethos can be understood through tangible elements like art, architecture, sculpture, paintings, religious practices – all these explain how the society worked in those times<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Using the knowledge of Art & Culture, a civil servant can implement things which can uplift the society.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Take an example of Madhubani paintings<\/a>. Madhubani Paintings is characterized by its vibrant colors and intricate patterns depicting scenes from mythology, nature, and daily life. Historically, these paintings were done by women on the walls of their homes to mark special occasions like weddings or festivals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In recent years, there has been a concerted effort to promote Madhubani painting as a means of economic empowerment for women in rural Bihar<\/a>. Government agencies, NGOs, and private organizations have initiated training programs to teach Madhubani painting to local women, equipping them with the skills to create artwork for commercial sale.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
