Occasional or sporadic domestic work not on an occupational basis doesn&#8217;t classify one as a domestic worker.&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Current_Status\"><\/span><strong>Current Status:<\/strong>&nbsp;<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Estimates suggest around 4.8 million domestic workers in India, with approximately 2.9 million being female. Women&#8217;s employment in domestic work constitutes 3.5% of the total female workforce. Domestic workers hold the third-largest share of employment after agriculture and construction. However, advocacy groups like the National Domestic Workers\u2019 Movement claim a much higher figure, exceeding 50 million domestic workers.&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Urban_Concentration\"><\/span><strong>Urban Concentration:<\/strong>&nbsp;<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Over 66% of domestic workers are employed in urban areas, reflecting a significant urban concentration. The last decade has witnessed a rapid 75% increase in the number of women and girls engaged in domestic work.&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Education_and_Skill_Levels\"><\/span><strong>Education and Skill Levels:<\/strong>&nbsp;<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The majority of domestic workers in India have minimal education, often being illiterate or possessing basic education.
