After the Ganga bifurcates near <strong>Murshidabad<\/strong>, the southern branch flows as the Hooghly, into which the Damodar ultimately drains before entering the <strong>Bay of Bengal<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The river flows through the <strong>Chota Nagpur Plateau<\/strong>, a region composed of <strong>very old, resistant rocks<\/strong>. Importantly, the Damodar flows through an ancient <strong>rift zone<\/strong>, making it a <strong>rift valley river<\/strong>. Other Indian rift valley rivers include <strong>Narmada, Tapi, Son, and Mahanadi<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a established in <strong>1948<\/strong> (conceptualised since the 1920s), inspired by the <strong>Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA)<\/strong> model.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span
