In contemporary society, the reluctance of ethically conscious young individuals to actively engage in politics has become a prevalent concern. Despite possessing the potential to contribute meaningfully to the political landscape, many shy away due to the pervasive influence of corruption, divisive practices, and a general disillusionment with the existing political system. To address this issue and invigorate ethical participation, several key steps can be taken. Firstly, educational institutions must incorporate comprehensive civic education, instilling a sense of responsibility and civic duty in students. Additionally, mentorship programs linking seasoned politicians with aspiring young leaders can provide valuable guidance and support. Creating transparent and accountable platforms within political parties, where meritocracy is prioritized over connections, can foster an environment that encourages ethical conduct. Furthermore, the media can play a pivotal role by highlighting positive instances of ethical political engagement and showcasing the impact of young leaders who prioritize integrity. By implementing these measures, society can cultivate a new generation of politically active and ethically conscious individuals, ensuring a healthier and more principled political landscape.

Answer:
In India, the word politics over time has come to be associated with corruption, political manipulation, opportunism, nepotism, along with weak moral integrity and character of political leaders. The flexing of muscle and money power in politics has made young people with ethical conduct wary of joining politics these days because they fear that their ethical power cannot compete with the money and muscle power of modern day politician as they cannot be as ruthless as unethical politician in the pursuance of power. They are also worried as their clean reputation may be spoiled in the dirty game of politics.
As per the 2014 data, India still elects the old cabinet, only 12 Members of Parliament are below 30 years of age. Inclusion of youth with ethical conduct in politics is important. Involvement of youth with moral values , fresh ideas and new leadership will help to overcome authoritarian practices.
Possible reasons behind the non-participation of youth in active politics:Â Â
- Avoid Violence: There is a popular opinion that politics is marred with violence and this may affect their normal life including their families.
- High Entry Barrier: Entry into politics is difficult. Fear and insecurity that their ethical power cannot compete with the money and muscle power of modern day politicians as they cannot be as ruthless as unethical politicians in the pursuit of power. They are also apprehensive as their clean reputation may be spoiled in the dirty game of politics.
- Social Stigma: Politicians are seen as corrupt and evil. Thus, it is not the aspiration of people to become one. Rarely does someone encourage his/her child to become a politician. Â
- Notion on Politics: Most of the newer generation succumb to the belief that politics is corrupt and only the filthy can survive.  Â
- Lack of Role Models: Role models influence people especially the youth to participate in a certain field of his/her. Currently, politics lacks the existence of such a role model who in an actual sense motivates the youth with his/her decisions and actions. Â
Politics is an important aspect for the governance which involves the activities associated with the governance of a country. It needs young minds with new ideas for better discussion on policies, formulation and implementation of policies and programmes.
Suggested Steps:
- Instilling in them a sense of duty and responsibility towards the country and people and by virtue of which, in politics. They can’t change it for better by not entering the system itself.
- Encourage participation in political debates and school and university elections to raise political awareness and check the indifference creeping in the youth towards politics.
- Perception management by bringing upright leaders to limelight in public discourse, highlighting their work and showcasing the cases of punishment of corrupt leaders,
- Persuasion and incentives by having a platform dedicated to youth in political parties where they can share their ideas, voice their grievances, experiment with politics, like youth wings, so that they feel their part in political matters.
- The government and political parties should work together to define and implement career pathways in politics for qualified people, and provide career guidance to young people who want to enter politics in the future.
In the current situation when our country is at a critical stage, the need is to have suitable political leaders who are not only professionally qualified but also smart, intelligent, educated and ethically competent. It therefore required some young leaders with enthusiasm, morality and diligence in Indian politics. Â
