Patriotism transcends the realms of defence services, permeating into the fabric of everyday civil life as a guiding principle of civic duty and communal responsibility. In the civilian context, patriotism manifests through acts of civic engagement, social responsibility, and a commitment to the collective welfare. It involves actively participating in democratic processes, upholding the rule of law, and advocating for the rights and liberties of fellow citizens. Moreover, patriotism encompasses embracing the cultural diversity of one’s nation and fostering inclusivity and tolerance within society. For instance, volunteering for community service, promoting environmental sustainability, and standing up against injustice are all expressions of patriotism in everyday life. In essence, patriotism in civil life signifies an unwavering dedication to the betterment of society, embodying the values of solidarity, empathy, and mutual respect.

Answer:
Patriotism is simply a love for one’s country. A patriot puts his country’s interests ahead of his own. The meaning of patriotism varies depending on the person’s profession. Eg. Patriotism is better governance for politicians, scientific invention for scientists.
Patriotism in everyday life:
- Social Sphere-Respect my family, society’s elderly, women. Encourage social equality and banish dowry. Take actions to ensure society’s welfare.
- Professional Sphere– Professionally, my greatest act of patriotism would be to improve my organisation. Devoting myself to the success of my company and being honest in my profession.
- Civil duties – Eg. Obeying the law would also be a patriotic act. Simple activities like obeying traffic and cleaning laws would be enough to demonstrate my patriotism.
- Economic sphere– Eg. paying income tax, GST, and other taxes. Taxes contribute to the country’s economic progress, therefore timely payment is an act of patriotism.
- Political Sphere– A country can prosper if the right politicians are elected. Proper voting and choosing upright representatives will help the nation.
Patriotism will not create an obstruction to love and respect people irrespective of national boundaries. Most of the people who have evolved outside India do contribute to nation-building be it Mahatma Gandhi in South Africa or present day Indian diaspora across the world. Thus, for a patriotic act intention and action needs to be national interest oriented.
