KABAAD SE KAMAAL
The initiative kicked off by revamping city buses that had surpassed 15-20 years of service and were no longer operational. Instead of simply discarding these buses, Mr. Wankhade and his team envisioned a more meaningful use for them. “Rather than selling these buses as scrap, I thought, why not turn them into something beneficial?” expressed the officer.
The buses underwent a clever transformation into libraries, offering essential access to books for children residing in slum areas. Initially stocked with comic books, these libraries have now broadened their collection to encompass educational materials catering to students from classes V to VIII. This innovative approach effectively addressed the absence of proper libraries for disadvantaged children in the city.
