The lessons he learned during his journey were all together put to his final attempt to make it a successful one. Thus following are some strategies shared by IAS Deepak Rawat which will surely help you in your preparation.
- The first and foremost point is beyond any good strategy. The three things which are the key to qualifying for any exam are DETERMINATION, HARD WORK, and CONSISTENCY.
- If a student can acquire all three, then there is no going back. No matter how much intelligence you have or from where you are coming from, if you do not put in every bit of strength, you cannot qualify for the UPSC exam.
Determination is essential, once you set a goal, you have to be fully determined to fulfill it. No matter what comes in the way, you have to be determined to cross every single hurdle and achieve your goal.
Last is consistency, without being consistent you can never reach anywhere. You have to constantly keep up your performance and stay focused.
Candidates must have a proper direction to project all their focus into
Proper guidance is required whether it is a teacher or a family member or anyone who has knowledge about the exam and has some personal experience. Because the Interview round of the UPSC exam is not a test of knowledge but a test of your personality.
So presenting yourself in front of the interviewers and staying confident is necessary for which you must have someone to guide you through the process.
After covering the whole syllabus it is mandatory to revise it again and again. As the syllabus is quite large, students tend to forget what they read, so timely revision is very important for not only the UPSC exam but also for all the exams.
After completion of revision, mock tests must be given by candidates as much as possible. The mock test series of Vajiram Insights is very good. This test series is suggested by almost all the UPSC qualifiers so it must be done. Besides mock tests, previous year’s papers should be thoroughly done.
While doing it, check the answers written by previous toppers which will help to get a better understanding of the approach to writing answers. Mock tests and solving previous year’s papers are so vital because it enables you to write the answers properly.
Even if you know the answers, you don’t need to know the correct approach to writing it. So, these tests help you to enhance your ability to write answers and understand the question patterns for both prelims and mains.
Now, choosing the optional subject is a crucial decision. You might think about how hard it is to choose an optional subject but it is not so easy. You have to make this decision after a lot of thinking.
You have to select a subject that meets the following criteria. – First, you must have an interest in that subject and a good knowledge. A subject from your high school or graduation is preferable as you have already grasped a good knowledge about it. Secondly, it will be very good if the optional subject is from your main subject so that you do not invest time in reading different subjects.
And the last thing that you should do before taking up the subject is you must research the subject thoroughly. Like the question patterns from previous year’s papers, the marks weightage everything which helps you to make your decision wiser on choosing the optional subject.
