Encouraging male membership within women’s organizations is a vital step towards fostering inclusivity and dismantling gender bias. Historically, women’s organizations have been spaces primarily occupied by women, aimed at addressing the unique challenges and advocating for the rights of women. However, in the pursuit of gender equality, it becomes imperative to recognize the importance of male allies in this endeavor. By inviting men to participate in these organizations, it not only challenges societal norms and stereotypes but also enriches the dialogue surrounding gender equality. Male members bring diverse perspectives, experiences, and insights that can contribute to more comprehensive and effective advocacy efforts. Moreover, their involvement can help break down barriers and misconceptions about feminism and gender equality, ultimately fostering a more inclusive environment for all genders. Embracing male membership within women’s organizations does not diminish the importance of women’s voices but rather strengthens the movement by fostering solidarity and collaboration across gender lines. In essence, by encouraging male participation, women’s organizations can transcend gender bias and work towards a more equitable society for all.

Answer:
The Constitution of India has bestowed equal rights on women and men. Discrimination on the grounds of gender is also prohibited by the Constitution (Article 14 and Article 15). Several laws have been passed to liberate women from the clutches of customs and practices that have oppressed them for centuries. Laws are undoubtedly very important to emancipate women from oppression, but it is equally important to create an environment in which equality can be enjoyed equally by all women.
The contribution to the rise of the feminist movement by Mary Wollstonecraft, Simone de Beauvoir and other women feminists is unquestionable. However, there have been many men who have also significantly contributed to the upliftment of women’s condition:
- Raja Ram Mohan Roy campaigned against the practice of sati
- Pandit Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar led the movement for women’s education and widow remarriage.
- In modern Bangladesh work of Muhammad Yunus is seminal in making credit available to rural women
- K Onler Kom, husband of Indian Olympic boxer Mary Kom, is an inspiration for all men out there
- Mahavir Singh Phogat believed in his girls and inspired them to conquer the heights of success
Role of Male Membership to make Women’s Organization Free from Gender Bias:
- To create such an environment, equal contribution of both male and female are required. Feminism in a positive sense is the primary need for a progressive society, but radical feminism is harmful. This is not true that a man cannot understand the problems women face or the struggle they endure.
- In a country with a history of 3000 years of women’s oppression, emancipating women from this oppression is very much new. Given the volume and diversity of the problems women face in India, it requires a very committed, continued, and inclusive effort on the part of both male and female members to reach the goal of women’s empowerment.
- Several evil practices like Sati, purdah, female infanticide, child marriage, patriarchy, son meta preference etc., have maligned women’s position in Indian society. But several male social reformers such as Ram Mohan Roy, Vidyasagar, Jyotiba Phule have worked immensely to secure women’s prestige and position in society.
- The growing trend worldwide is to make laws and society gender-neutral. If male participation in women organizations can make it free from gender bias, it should be encouraged. Thus, we shall be able to achieve a society free from gender discrimination.
Empowerment is a light that has to be lit in every heart, and only then will it become a mass movement. Neither the state nor the women’s groups can solve all the problems that women face. For women to be empowered, we need an enlightened society and collective effort from both genders.
