UPSC conducts the Civil Services exams to recruit officers based on their eligibility and qualifications for various positions every year. This year the notification was released on March 4th, which was delayed around three weeks from the due release dates and the information mentioned about the UPSC vacancies and criteria. The official notification from UPSC stated that the exam would be conducted to fill up 712 UPSC Vacancies, which has reduced by 11% of the total vacant seats offered in 2020.
UPSC had started rolling out their forms for civil service aspirants on March 4th, and the last date for filling out the Prelims forms, through online mode, was March 24th. Recently, due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic (which has taken another considerable spike), it is also a cause for the UPSC Preliminary Exam getting postponed to a later date. UPSC 2021 Preliminary exam was supposed to take place on June 27th, 2021 has now been shifted to October 10th,2021 considering the interest and welfare of all the candidates and citizens.
New UPSC Prelims 2021 Exam Date: October 10th, 2021
As the students and aspirants fill out the forms for 712 vacancies, they must undergo three elimination rounds. 0.2% of the total applicants get a chance to realize their dreams with an appointment letter and admission into the training centre.
Apart from the declared UPSC 2021 vacancies of 712 posts, the centre has also specified 22 vacancies reserved for PWD candidates in the following categories:
Category | Number of Reserved Vacancies |
---|---|
Blindness and Low Vision. | 5 |

Locomotor disability including cerebral palsy, leprosy (cured), dwarfism, acid attack victims, and muscular dystrophy. | 6 |
Multiple disabilities from amongst persons under clauses (a) to (c) including deaf-blindness. | 5 |
The number of vacancies for the year 2021 changed significantly with a reduction of 84 seats for UPSC Vacancy 2021 as compared to 2020. Now, the candidates have to compete for 712 vacancies, some of which got reserved for PWD candidates. The primary reason for the yearly variation in the number of vacancies is the requirements that different ministries of our Nation quote. The requirement is then published by Cadre Controlling Authorities, which leads to the shift in the number of jobs for UPSC Civil Services. The trend of a shift in the number of vacancies throughout the previous five years can be observed in the table given below:
